Developing Taste

Q Pick one piece of artwork from the Renaissance or Baroque period and write why you preferred that piece over the others. Think about what kind of taste you have for art. Is your taste for art changing as you go through this class? If we define taste let's consider taste in the two senses: your preferences and your faculty for discerning excellence, beauty , or appropriateness. In the first sense, what painting, painter, style form the Renaissance and Baroque periods is most to your tate? What personality style or type does your taste reflect ? Likewise, what kind of painting is least to your taste? In the second sense, how is your power of discernment evolving or developing as you yourself develop as a person? How has your taste been enriched or improve by our study so far? Do you believe that the pleasure of meaning that you find in your life will be enhanced by improving " y;ur tastes? Should a college education help you refine or develop your aesthetic sensitivity and powers of enjoyment? Make your original post at least 150 words long. Remember to respond to two of your peer's post, make your responses at least 50 words each. * note: If you are writing about a particular work of art in the book please state the page number. If you can copy and paste the picture that would even be better. Remember to respond to two of your peer's post.

The artwork I choose is from the Baroque period painted by Rembrandt van Rijn in 1669. The piece is called The Return of the Prodigal Son which reflects a story in the Bible called The Parable of the Lost Son in Luke 15. I choose the Baroque period to start off with choosing a piece of artwork because I had not learned much about the era yet. I then choose the artwork The Return of the Prodigal Son because of the importance and meaning it has. I've read the story in the Bible and it speaks so loud about God's grace, love, and mercy. I've never had an interest in looking at and learning about the artwork.
